Dental Dentures in Ilford and Essex

Tooth loss affects many people every year and wearing dentures should not be an unsightly and uncomfortable experience.  Dentures replace your natural teeth and give support to your facial muscles which will prevent sagging of the cheeks and lips, minimising the appearance of aging. They will help you eat comfortably and speak more clearly and may boost your confidence and self-esteem.

There are two types of dentures:

  • Full or complete dentures, which replace all your own teeth and fit snugly over your gums.  Dentures can be made to closely match your natural teeth so that your appearance is not drastically changed.
  • Partial dentures, which replace teeth that are missing and can sometimes be supported by the teeth you have left.  If you have spaces between your teeth, other teeth may move to fill some of the gaps, resulting in crooked or tilted teeth.  This could impact the way you bite and possibly damage your other teeth.

The dentist will take impressions and measurements and then send them to the dental technician for the denture to be cast up into wax. At the next visit the patient will have a wax try-in to check the fit at which time any adjustments will be made and returned to the laboratory for the final stage of the denture. The process may require a few visits to the dentist to ensure a firm and comfortable fit.

Because dentures are custom made to fit your mouth, the denture should stay in place.  However, over time it may become loose as your mouth changes.  A fixative cream may be applied to hold the denture in place.

With professional care, persistence and a positive outlook you can wear your dentures with a smile!
